In 1995, Zain Jordan revolutionized telecommunications in Jordan by introducing GSM mobile services into the country. Zain quickly became the foremost telecom company in Jordan, a position that it kept to this day through a far sighted policy of investment in adopting cutting edge technology to provide state of the art services to clients, and investment in community development through the most active and substantive corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in the kingdom.
Since its inception, Zain Jordan has tallied subscriber growth at an exceptional rate, with the number of around 3.9 million subscribers with a telecom market share of 38% in the kingdom.
Through about 3294 2G and 3G cell sites, Zain covers the entire populated area of Jordan.
In January 2003, Zain Group acquired Zain Jordan in what was considered the largest single acquisition in the Middle East region, and the largest private sector investment in Jordan.
Zain Jordan was a pioneer in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), by launching and supporting various national initiatives in several sectors including education, youth, health, sports, environment and philanthropy. During the past 18 years, Zain Jordan provided support with a total value of 57 million dollars that was dedicated towards CSR initiatives.
In 2011, Zain launched high-speed Zain Broadband services through modern HSPA+ technology. Today, more than 1.577 million subscribers enjoy the fastest Internet connection over the largest Internet coverage across Jordan.
Since day one, Zain has deployed an advanced infrastructure and launched its services over a state-of-the-art network. The company will invest 113 million dollars in 2014 to upgrade its network, to develop its services and to expand the fiber optics and Wi-Fi networks. Zain will also establish an additional 350 3G sites, upgrade the 2G network and develop the Value Added Services (VAS).
Zain activated a new billing system developed by Ericsson that provides an efficient and flexible mechanism in rating services provided by the company and which considers the variety of convergent and integrated telecom solutions.
Zain also launched the global Wi-Fi data roaming service to be offered to its customers, to enjoy the Wi-Fi service in more than 1.2 million locations in 117 countries around the world in collaboration with iPass Inc.
Aiming at providing premium value added services and applications that match the growing demands of customers to acquire diverse content, the company introduced several applications including “ZainJo Application”, a free self- care application, “Zain Al-Hayat”, a comprehensive Islamic application, and “Zain Diet” application, in addition to launching “Zain track” service for vehicle tracking and protection from theft, that was introduced for the first time in Jordan.
Zain received five regional awards during 2013 including the Customer Service Provider of the Year 2013 by The CommsMEA Awards, the Best Converged Operator in the SAMENA Region of 2013 by SAMENA Council Awards, and Telecom Review Magazine awarded Zain for being the Middle East Operator of 2013, and the Best Customer Service Provider of 2013.
